Roman Catholic Mass

The order of the Roman Catholic Mass: the portions collectively known as the Ordinary are italicized. Traditionally, the other portions — the Proper — were rendered as plainsong. High mass was sung, while Low Mass was spoken.

§ Gloria

Gloria in excelsis Deo, et in terra pax hominibus bonae voluntatis.

Glory in the highest to God, and in earth, peace to men of goodwill.

Laudamus te, benedicamus te, adoramus te, glorificamus te.

We praise thee, we bless thee, we adore thee, we glorify thee.

Gratias agimus tibi propter magnam gloriam tuam,

We thank thee for thy great glory.

Domine Deus, Rex coelestis, Deus Pater omnipotens,

Lord God, king of heaven, God the all-powerful Father,

Domine Fili unigenite Jesu Christe,

Lord Jesus Christ the only-begotten Son,

Domine Deus, Agnus Dei, Filius Patris,

Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father,

Qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis.

[He] who takes away the world’s sins, have mercy on us.

Qui tollis peccata mundi, suscipe deprecationem nostram.

Who takes away the world’s sins, receive our prayers.

Qui sedes ad dexteram Patris, miserere nobis.

Who sits at the right of the Father, have mercy on us.

Quoniam tu solus sanctus, tu solus Dominus, tu solus altissimus,

For only you are holy, only you Lord, only you are the highest.

Jesu Christe, cum Sancto Spiritu, in gloria Dei Patris. Amen.

Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. So may it be.

§ Credo

Credo in unum Deum, Patrem omnipotentem

I believe in one God, the all-powerful Father,

Factorem coeli et terrae, visibilium omnium et invisibilium

the maker of heaven and earth, all things visible and invisible,

Et in unum Dominum Jesum Christum Filium Dei unigenitum

and in one Lord Jesus Christ the only begotten Son of God

Et ex Patre natum ante omnia saecula.

and born of the Father preceding all worlds.

Deum de Deo, Lumen de Lumine

God from God, Light from Light,

True God from true God, not made but begotten

Consubstantialem Patri per quem omnia facta sunt.

of the same substance as the Father, through whom all things were made.

Who for us men and for our salvation

descended from heaven and was incarnate of the Holy Spirit

from the virgin Mary and was made a man and indeed crucified for us

Sub Pontio Pilato passus et sepultus est

under Pontius Pilate suffered and was buried

Et resurrexit tertia die secundum Scripturas

and was resurrected on the third day according to scripture

and ascended into heaven, sits at the right of the Father

and will come again in glory to judge the living and dead

Cujus regni non erit finis.

whose reign shall never end.

Et in spiritum Sanctum Dominum et vivificantem

And in the Holy Spirit Lord and life-giver

Qui ex Patre Filioque procedit

who proceeds from the Father and the Son

who with the Father and Son is adored and glorified

Qui locutus est per prophetas

who spoke through the prophets.

Et in unam sanctam catholicam et apostolicam Ecclesiam

And in one holy universal and apostolic church

Confiteor unum baptisma in remissionem peccatorum

I confess one baptism for the remission of sins

Et exspecto resurrectionem mortuorum, et vitam venturi

  saeculi. Amen.

and I await the resurrection of the dead and the life of the

coming world. So may it be.
